Are you thinking of investing in one of the clothes steamers from Jiffy? Specializing in the heavy-duty home and professional standing steamers their models do not come cheap. As such, you might wanna see what customers say about their experience with Jiffy before making a buying decision.

I have reviewed their most used models and really did dig into the details of user feedback. Unlike many other brands on the market, Jiffy focuses on steamers only and is the inventor of the hat steamer. Let’s see the verdict on whether you should trust a specialist manufacturer or go for a product from a big brand competitor instead.

About the company

Jiffy has been around since 1940 and the company is the largest maker of steamers and other steam related products in the world.

Clothes steamers are not their only products, they are making steamers for breaking in shoes, gloves, steaming hay and killing dust mites. Steam is definitely their specialty.

Based in Union City, Tennessee, Jiffy uses American components for their steamers and backs them up with a 3-year warranty. (1)

Jiffy J-2000 Garment Steamer

The flagship Jiffy clothes steamer for home use, the J-2000 has a long and successful history. Some say the design is a little old school, but the durability of the product speaks for itself. Jiffy uses solid materials such as brass and high-impact plastic to ensure their products last for a long time and they offer a 3-year warranty to back it up.

Like most of their steamers, the J-2000 can be ordered with either a plastic or a metal steam head. I recommend the plastic head for home use and the metal head for commercial use. The choice of colors are either pink or beige.

The official heating up time for the full tank of water – ¾ gallon or 2.84 L – is 2 minutes but I have found that a fairly common complaint of water spitting can be greatly reduced with a longer – 12-15 min heating time. This will ensure steady steam for up to 1.5 hours, enough to breeze through the family laundry.

Features

  • 1300 W power
  • ¾ gallon (2.84 L) water tank capacity
  • High impact plastic housing
  • Solid brass heating element
  • Auto shut-off safety feature

Pros

  • Durable and quality components
  • 4 wheels for stability and portability
  • Quick 2 minutes heating time
  • Solid steam for 1.5 hours continuously
  • Easy to use
  • 3-year warranty

Cons

  • Can spit water occasionally
  • Steam hose is a little rigid and could be longer

Feedback

The Jiffy J-2000 has received many great comments about its durability, there are stories of people using them for over a decade!

Some note that the design hasn’t changed during that time either but why change what works?

On a more practical note, just as you would expect for a long steaming session, both the plastic and metal heads can get hot after a while. The metal head comes with a wooden handle to help with this but the screws in the wood are still metal, and still get hot.

Users advise to only fill the tank with the amount of water you need for the day as you should let it steam out at the end to prevent spores growing in the water tank. If you fill it up and only use half of it, it can take a while to use up all the remaining steam.

Who is it for?

As I have already written about in my list of best garment steamers, the Jiffy J-2000M is my recommendation for anyone wanting to invest in a long-term home steamer. The design may not be everyone’s favorite, but the durability of this garment steamer is legendary.

Jiffy J-2M Clothes Steamer

The Jiffy J-2M is positioned between the J-2000M and the J-4000M. Featuring the same 1300 W heating plate as the J-2000 but the housing is made of die cast aluminum instead of the high impact plastic for the J-2000M model. The capacity of the water tank has also been expanded to 1-gallon allowing the J-2M to produce continuous steam for 1.5 – 2 hours.

It can be ordered with a glass-filled nylon or a metal steam head and comes in pink and grey. The same advice I gave regarding the heating up time for the J-2000M is also valid for the J-2M. Give it enough time for properly heating up the water and the steam will be more consistent.

I have found the design of the water tank a little odd as it can be accidentally knocked over if you bump into the steamer during use. I would advise picking up the J-2000 instead if you have children running around the house while operating it.

Features

  • Safety auto shut-off
  • Die cast aluminum housing
  • 1300 W power
  • 1-gallon water tank capacity

Pros

  • Up to 2 hours of steam
  • Easy to move around on the 4 wheels
  • Super durable materials
  • 3-year warranty

Cons

  • Need to be careful with the water tank when moving around
  • The hose can get hot during longer sessions

Feedback

Comments from users about the durability of any Jiffy steamer is usually positive and the J-2M is no exception. Made from the same high-impact materials and time-tested features as other models it will last for years or even decades.

Other buyers also warn about the water tank as it only uses the weight of the water to hold it in place. People who purchased the plastic head are happy about the robust construction and saying the metal head must last “forever”.

It feels heavy and bulky for some users but the quality and strength of the steam it produces satisfies most buyers.

Who is it for?

I would only recommend the J-2M for smaller commercial environments or for home use where there are no children in the house. For family use, the J-2000M will be just as good – without the water tank issue - and the J-4000M can be a better choice for larger establishments.

Jiffy J-4000 Commercial Garment Steamer

The Jiffy J-4000 is the brands main clothes steamer model for commercial and heavy-duty home use. Do not expect a quick steaming session with this steamer so if every day refreshing of shirts for the office is your reason for wanting a steamer, this is not your model. If, however, you have a large pile of clothes to iron every week and want to replace that iron for good, keep on reading.

The J-4000 comes with the same options as the smaller models. The usual choice of colors - pink and beige – and the usual choice between steam head materials – plastic or metal applies here as well. I repeat the same word of advice too, have a good reason for choosing the metal head for home use as it does get heavy during longer steaming session.

To effectively heating up the 1-gallon water in the full tank, Jiffy has introduced a 15 min preheat stage before the 2 min heating stage for the J-4000. When the steam gets there though, it hits hard on any wrinkles and thanks to the 6-inch wide steam head you can make up for the lost time quickly.

This is a durable garment steamer to serve you for many years, but you will need to put in some time in the beginning to get familiar with it.

Features

  • 1500 W power
  • Extra-large 1-gallon (3.79 L) water tank capacity
  • Die-cast aluminum housing
  • 5.5 feet long steam hose
  • Brass couplings and heating element
  • Safety auto shut-off

Pros

  • Durable construction made to last
  • Works well even on stubborn wrinkles
  • Handles a wide range of fabrics including upholstery
  • Continuous steam time of up to 2 hours
  • 4 wheels for easy mobility
  • 6-inch wide steam head for faster work

Cons

  • Heating time is longer
  • There is a learning curve for using it effectively

Feedback

Users are praising the durability and effectiveness of this heavy-duty clothes steamer. Once you get used to the optimal way to operate it – the proper preheating time seems important here – the J-4000 will breeze through all the garments you throw in front of it.

One fill will provide enough steam for re-wrinkling a full wash of clothes or tablecloths and curtains for a restaurant. Powerful enough to completely replace your iron. The design could use an upgrade and some small details could be improved such as the missing gauge for the water level, but these are not dealbreakers.

Make sure you have enough clothes and fabrics to use it on, otherwise it might be an overkill. For home use I would advise looking at the smaller models in most cases.

Who is it for?

The Jiffy J-4000M is the top choice for smaller commercial applications on the market today. If you buy it for home use, you can expect to have a clothes steamer that can handle every material for a long time. This might be that one household appliance you can borrow to friends without having to worry about them breaking it.

Jiffy J-1 Hat Steamer

Jiffy does not like to change things that work. The body, heating element and water tank of the Jiffy J-1 hat steamer is basically the same as the elements of their J-2M clothes steamer. But this steamer does not come with a hose, it is intended for hats only.

Designed to sit on a tabletop for easy access, the 1300 W brass heater will produce strong, continuous steam in about 2 minutes. It can shape 2-3 hats in one go without having to stop for refills. The steam is coming out of 5 outlets from the brass nozzle to make sure it is distributed evenly.

Backed by the same 3-years warranty as other Jiffy steamers, the J-1 hat steamer can easily pay for itself after just a couple of uses if you own 2-3 hats. It can also be a great present idea for a proud cowboy – or any other kind of - hat owner.

Features

  • 1300 W power
  • 1-gallon water tank capacity
  • Solid brass steam outlet
  • Durable die cast aluminum housing
  • Tabletop design

Pros

  • Strong steam for shaping any kind of hats
  • The 5 steam outlets distribute steam evenly
  • Up to 2 hours steam time
  • Auto shut-off in case of overheating
  • Long power cord

Cons

  • Looked hard but couldn’t find any, it does its job well

Feedback

The Jiffy J-1 is a really solid hat steamer. It just works, ready to replace your tea pots and other makeshift hat steamers, as noted by several buyers. One user was calculating that after just 2 rounds of shaping his 3 cowboy hats the Jiffy J-1 would payed for itself and provide free hat shaping - possibly for decades - after that.

Who is it for?

If you own cowboy hats or any other kind of hats that need shaping, the Jiffy J-1 will be the one and only steamer you need. It can also serve as a great addition for a dry-cleaning business.

Conclusion About Jiffy Steamers

Jiffy is a solid household name and for good reason. Their clothes steamers are among the most durable pieces on the market. If you don't mind the somewhat outdated design, a Jiffy garment steamer will be a long-term investment that will help you de-wrinkle clothes, curtains, upholstery for years to come.
